Title: Night by Irena K
Fandom: Trigun (with a cameo from the Buffy 'verse)
Pairing: gen
Categories: action, drama, supernatural
Length: 21,000 words
Warnings: n/a

Review:
Vash, Meryl, and Millie discover vampires. It doesn't go well.

This is the first Trigun fic I've ever recced and I'm delighted to say that it's one that would have fit right in with the actual anime (aside from, you know, the vampires). I'm most impressed by the characterization: anime characters are always tough to write, because they're usually canonically larger than life and while that works well in visual media, it doesn't always translate well into prose. Irena does a brilliant job of staying true to the characters and their relationships while keeping their actions realistic. She also does a phenomenal job of using the world of the desert planet and Plants to make a layered, interesting plot that does an excellent job of blending action with emotion.

Fun and full of action and suspense, Night is a very enjoyable Trigun fic.

Title: The Ties that Bind Job by Hickumu
Fandom: Leverage/Angel
Pairing: gen
Categories: action, casefile (sort of), crossover, drama, family, friendship
Length: 40,000 words
Warnings: n/a

Review:
When Eliot stumbles into a nest of vampires, it's sheer luck that Faith is there to save him. The only problem is, he's now in a coma and Faith (and Angel) thinks that he's Lindsay McDonald. The Leverage crew, on the other hand, have never heard of this 'Lindsay' character (and don't get them started on the subject of 'vampires'). Thus begins one epic tale of friendship and family drama.

I've had a streak of bad luck with fics of late, so I my expectations were low when I opened this story, especially since I'm not a huge fan of Eliot or Angel centric fics. Fortunately for me, this story is a perfect ensemble piece with everyone getting a chance to shine and with plenty of attention paid to team dynamics. Even better is the fact that everyone is beautifully in character, with the two worlds tied together so seamlessly that I had a tough time remembering which bits were canon and which were crossover. Finally, I really appreciated that the crossover is weighted on the Leverage side of things; fans of both shows should be satisfied, but for a Leverage fan a well-written epic is a special treat.

If you like team stories, or tales of found family, or friendship fics, or just plain like a good, well-written crossover you should give this fic a try.

Title: The Snow Queen by Doyle
Fandom: Angel (with Buffy universe cameos)
Pairing: gen, with flirting
Categories: action, casefile
Length: 13,500 words

Review:
Set after Doyle dies and before Gunn joins the team as a regular member. When Angel and Wes are abducted at a simple rescue gone wrong, it's up to Cordelia (and her mad recruiting powers) to save the day.

As I'm not a huge fan of brooding vampires (be they of the Angel variety or the Spike variety), I don't read much Buffy 'verse fics. Fortunately, this fic features neither, as it's all about Cordelia and her delightfully practical approach to saving the day. Between her superpower (bitchiness), Gunn (even more awesome than in canon), and the Buffsters (elevating squabbling to an art form, heh) you have a fun, fast-paced fic that could (and absolutely should) have been an episode of the show.

John, Lucy, and Matt keep trying to have a day off, but bad shit *just keeps happening*. And it is hysterical.

The vast majority of the DH4 fic I've read is John/Matt and kind of angsty, which is why this story is such a breath of fresh air. The various misadventures of the McClanes and Farrell are kind of ridiculous (but no more ridiculous than actual canon) and at the same time awesome, as all three of the people in question are more than equipped to kick ass. Even if that ass happens to belong to a rogue Santa. Funny and very fun.

Review:
When a friend of Barry the money launderer gets abducted by a human trafficker, Michael, Sam, and Fiona are tasked with rescuing her.

This is a meat and potatoes fic, with good writing and an interesting (if a bit thin) plot. The characterizations are why I'm reccing this fic; all three members of the team are spot on, with Fiona a special standout. Though I gotta say my favorite bit is when Sam goes undercover as a "puppy". A solid casefile.

Pairing: gen
Categories: fluff, humor, hurt/comfort, favorite
Length: 14,000 words (combined)

Review:
Neal decides he wants to learn to fight and Peter decides to help him. The ladies (and a few of the guys) at the FBI are very grateful. Later (i.e., in the sequel), Neal goes for more official training at Quantico and proceeds to be an idiot. Hurt/comfort ensues.

My first gen recs on the comm! And what a sweet, snarky, cute couple of gen fics they are. The characterization is particularly good: Neal and Peter have some great banter, Elizabeth and Jones are brilliant, and Mozzie and June have very entertaining cameos. Mix in some drooling (and can you blame them?) FBI ladies in New York and a whole gaggle of star-struck fledgling Fibbies at Quantico and you have a fun, enjoyable, light read, perfect for any time you need a smile.
